They are not myths. They are not ghosts. They are here, at the crossroads, right now.

In the Haitian Vodou tradition, the Lwa are not ancient stories locked in old books. They are living, active divine forces — cosmic sovereigns who descend into the open-air peristyle temple during ceremony to give direct guidance, healing, and protection to the community. Millions of practitioners across Haiti, the Caribbean, and the diaspora call upon them today, as they have for centuries.

At the center of the Vodou cosmos stands Damballah — the great silver sky serpent, one of the oldest and most revered of all the Lwa. He is a Rada spirit: primordial, peaceful, and ancient beyond memory. He represents cosmic order, the sky, the waters, and the unbroken thread of ancestral wisdom. Where Damballah moves, the world breathes.

This puzzle captures the sacred ceremony at its most luminous — Damballah coiled above the world tree as the crimson sun sets over the water, the glowing vévé crossroads symbol blazing on the peristyle floor, Lwa figures gathered in ceremony on both sides, red hibiscus blooming at the edges, drums and candles lighting the dark. The crossroads is open. The Lwa have arrived.

The Lwa act as intermediaries between humanity and Bondye — the supreme, unknowable Creator. Each commands a specific domain of nature and human life. Some are Rada spirits of peace and cosmic order. Others are Petwo spirits — fierce, protective ancestral forces born from the raw resilience of the Haitian Revolution. Together, they form a living divine matrix that has guided their people through centuries of survival, resistance, and joy.

Assemble the ceremony. Research the Lwa. Remember the crossroads is always open.
